F ACILITY: Tift Regional Medical Center
WORK TYPE: PRN
SUMMARY:
The Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides direct occupational therapy procedures to assigned patients under the supervision, or as an assistant, of the Occupational Therapist. The COTA also assists in planning and implementation of treatment and performs other duties as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Completes a chart review and identify abnormalities in basic lab values and diagnostic tests that will prompt completion or withholding of therapy services.
  • Reviews the occupational therapy evaluation and plan of care, including goals, treatments, frequency, and duration.
  • Completes assessment of ROM, strength, balance, and functional mobility in accordance with the physical therapy plan of care.
  • Administers occupational therapy treatment according to the occupational therapy plan of care.
  • Documents patient progress according to approved medical documentation and facility documentation procedures.
  • Provides education to patients and caregivers based on the needs of each patient.
  • Reports patient progress to patients, caregivers, and other members of the healthcare team involved in the care of the patient.
  • Provides ongoing recommendations for patient discharge based on the needs of each patient.
  • Consults and collaborates with other healthcare professionals routinely.
  • Maintains production objectives by continually monitoring patient caseload and organization/scheduling throughout the day according to need.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, etc.
  • Delivers quality occupational therapy services to patients referred to occupational therapy under the supervision of the occupational therapists.
  • Provides direct occupational therapy treatment procedures safely and effectively to assigned patients under the supervision, or as an assistant, of the occupational therapist.
  • Fulfills all operational responsibilities of the department, including supervision and direction of supportive personnel and students.
  • Participates in an ongoing assessment of the quality of care provided by the Occupational Therapy Department.
  • Where appropriate, consistently makes an effort to obtain information for physicians, patients, and guests.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
  • Understands and adheres to compliance standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflicts of Interest Policy.
  • Demonstrates age-specific skills as required by position.
  • Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
  • Attends all mandatory education programs.
  • Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.
  • Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
  • Willing to cross-train in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in department.
  • Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
  • Manages resources effectively.
  • Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment.
  • Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.
EDUCATION:
* Associate's Degree
in Occupational Therapy Assistant
CREDENTIALS:
* OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASST
  • State License
OTHER INFORMATION:
Must maintain current licensure as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in the State of Georgia. Must maintain BLS certification.
